Re: Oldster on a hunger strike
my 29 year old likes her alfalfa pellets soaked in near boiling water for 5 minutes...just long enough to rehydrate them..they are damp but not wet and I think she likes her feed warm...I put the pellets in a bucket , cover with very hot water,,cover the bucket with a towel and let it sit while I do...

Re: Trying again, hope this is the one!
After the winter off and part of spring and an evaluation by our vet, Miss Lottie is under saddle again...she's not the girl she was, not as forward , but I think that is partly due to the tentative way I've been riding her..so afraid to cause her pain...but she's doing ok..I have no plans for her o...

This is my Thoroughbred at 27, she has not been ridden since age 22..she was stumbling a lot and not interested in work any more. She has lost her muscle , no topline left , but all in all she's doing well on alfalfa pellets and Purina Honesty, lots of hay and grazing.

SRhorselady, I also have had several older horses that were ridden late into thier twenties...it's very disappointing that this little gem won't be. Re: hocks and stifles, and injections
Lottie has become worse under saddle, seems pasture sound...she's fine to walk around the ring but trotting is painful....so I'll take her for a walk now and then and let her enjoy her life. I discussed other treatments and the vet feels that nothing will help ...we can't make the lesion go away...i...

So, stifle was xrayed, a cystic lesion was found on her femor, Legend and DepMed injected....and she continued to get worse in stead of better, other treatments were discussed and ruled out...so I have a pasture puff...maybe some walk under saddle now and then...she's very painful in trot....and it ...
