Tanga, Chisamba, etc, great and interesting posts. The world I inhabit, like I think many of you, is so far removed from those riders. Where my goals are practically zilch and my idea of a horse's "disobedience" (aka feedback from the horse) is a tail swat or a brace. I put a flash on my y...

Checking in with updates on my big, sweet yellow boy. A few weeks ago we went to a ranch event schooling show. Long story, but I got there super late and had like 15 minutes to warm up. So he was pretty tense, but relaxed over the course of the morning. We didn't place or anything, but he did relax....

I know this is a far left field suggestion, but....can you find some cattle? I want the instructor to evaluate where we are in that moment (there are days where me and my horse are on fire, and days where we're a little more remedial) and we work to improve where we are. That ridiculous fee is so odd. It's one thing to pay a normal lesson fee, maybe, to the trainer for using his/her time, or a partial one if they're teaching another lesson while you're riding. But especially considering you've bought from the trainer before (and that it ultimately didn't end well) y...

About $300 for a recognized show (two classes).
In comparison, I can show at an equivalent reined cow horse show for $250 (two classes).....but if I do well, I will earn prize money back, which depending on the placing and class size is $75-300 per placing.

So why would a gait score would be included at all, even in the collectives. What would be the purpose?
I guess if I were redesigning I’d leave that out completely, because the only purpose it serves is to handicap FOR one specific type of horse, but maybe I’m missing a thought?
