Yes, they are all very good. However, its definitely better to get a trainer to walk you though things on the horse and use the books as a supplement.

Re: Getting Dressage-y in 2023: January-February Goals and Progress
Hello everyone! Happy new year! 2022 was a bit high energy getting my equine nutrition business going but clients are super happy and it's a great career. I didn't stop riding, but it does take a lot of effort. Riding is also going well and still trying for third level with Riot. He's 18 going to be...

Well. He was covered in hives, treated on repeated occasions with dex and antihistamines to clear them up and back they came within days of finishing the treatment, tested off the charts high for flaxseed via the blood test. removed flaxseed from his diet and the hives went away, so I'm fairly conv...

Re: Riding goals for The long night and Freezing moon months
Rye, I'm by no means anti-alfalfa and fed it almost exclusively to my horses at home for many years. However, Potters seems to have a level of tolerance of protein that once he surpasses it, he turns from being a sensitive sportscar ride into a twitchy, spooky monster. (I had the same experience wi...

Re: Riding goals for The long night and Freezing moon months
It turns out that Potters managed to spook off our wonderful working student a couple of weeks ago while I was out of town. No harm done, but not good. Turns out they'd had a hay change and had been feeding him high octane alfalfa for a few days. Well, we know that doesn't work! tell me more about ...

Re: lengthenings for a spicy jalapeno!
so play with half halts and make the lengthening come one or two steps in the rebalancing
I'm not a fan of "more faster" so I tend to stick with a few steps at a time. If they go on the forehand during rushing it only makes it harder.

try more preparatory HH and "almost canter" ideas then canter. I would go back to trot canter, trot halt trot and then revisit walk-canter She might be getting surprised by the aids. For this issue the TOH would likely confuse the horse more. While good for getting collection this might co...

Would copra (Coolstance) be an option as a carrier? Many horses find that pretty delicious. I've considered coolstance as something to feed RP since he's off grain and I know a lot of people feed it. Honestly, though beet pulp is so easy and cheap that for now I'm inclined to stick with it. I know ...

What an enjoyable day at the barn today. Temperature of 72 degrees, light breeze, and a seemingly happy horse…what more do you need? One thing I have been striving for the last month is getting Kyra relaxed enough to be able to W/T/C on a loose rein. I don’t feel we need to be in dressage mode ever...

When do you decide you are ready for second level? Depends on what you mean by show second- you must mean 2:1 to start as there is a huge difference in 2:1 vs 2:3 In my case I showed 1st many times with scores in the high 60s and low 70s with several judges. My friend said I was no longer allowed t...
