The stock market dropped today. If that continues people will start paying attention.

Re: Do you lock your stirrup leathers into the bar?
When I worked with racehorses and young horses heading to the racetrack, it was de riguer to have the bars up. The stirrups were smaller so less danger of getting a foot hung, and the more experienced riders were more concerned about having a stirrup leather pull off at a crucial moment when a horse...

Re: Cuisinart Food Processor Blade Recall
Apparently any blade with rivets is being recalled.
We have used ours for many loaves of bread over the years, and when I looked at the bottom of the blade it had cracks at every rivet.

Paula, just FYI Bob's old Smart Pak blanket has been keeping my guy warm and happy and is still going strong after several seasons. He has moderately high withers and it's a good fit on him.

Re: Questions about the Democratic Party
IMO one of the biggest problems our state and national lawmakers face is the rise of "gotcha" politics and short-term goals trumping what's best for our country. Again IMO this is tied in large part to the gigantic infusions of cash and negativity into political campaigns. Congressional an...

Re: California Chrome Wins the $10,000,000 Dubai World Cup
He had plenty of turnout when he was at Taylor Made for a few months last year, but racetracks don't have turnout areas. A few trainers may have room to set up a small pen/outdoor stall, and many off track training centers have some turnout available, but generally racehorses get all their exercise ...

Re: America's rising suicide rate
One article I read suggested that it is due more to the decline of the middle class, so as people who used to be solidly middle class drop into lower economic classes their health outcomes are more like expected health outcomes for lower socioeconomic classes. Opiod drug addiction could be a factor,...

Re: Speaking of mini-donks, burros, etc.
I think they may have them up to about 17 hands now, although why anyone would want a 17 hand donkey I don't know? The tallest ones are often spindly with long backs and legs, and small bodies, so probably can't carry as much as some of the shorter, solid ones. Just guessing, but crossing them with...

Re: Speaking of mini-donks, burros, etc.
They are the same animal, but according to this site which may have more information than you are looking for, "The word “burro” is a simple translation of the English word donkey. Burro is to donkey as hermano is to brother. Both words reflect the same meaning. In the United States, we use the...

Re: Speaking of rule changes, I'm kind of horrified by this new rule: blindfolds?
A good friend of mine is totally blind and competed for years as a Grade 3 rider. She had no problem with the blindfold and feels strongly that it evened the playing field for her because a number of the blind riders actually had considerably more vision than she did. She listened to the video and s...

Re: Trump??!!?
After 35+ years in the Thoroughbred racing and breeding indusry, I can tell you for a fact that extreme success in business does not necessarily equal good sense in other areas. Hang around the Keeneland sales pavilion long enough and you'll see a parade extremely wealthy and self-made folks conned ...

He looks like a puppet on strings, flash but no sense of immense power coming from behind.
Someone on COTH posted a video of him as a younger horse and his trot was huge but much more natural without the gaited-horse animation of the front legs.
