Where the horse reacts to create jambette is a matter for each horse. For some it is in front of the leg, for others back, still for others get the horse to jambette (and even hold the jambette from holding under the leg). Simply lift the inside rein slightly, it will cause inside flexion at the atlas. Meanwhile inside leg is pulsed closer to the girth, and the outside leg is passively down and back from hip to heel. The outside rein is filled out by lateral flexibility, not by holding it stronger per se.

Re: Riding without Ambiguity
The thing is for this to be so there has to be the big three for the rider: correct equitation combined with tact and timing (esp as to half halts). It always comes back to the rider and then their experience and ability to apply knowledge of training exercises/movements to sustain purity of gaits a...

It is recommended (according to educational sources) that apparently to have the thermostat 4-6 degrees higher than normal when -degrees are occurring (esp with wind) because after a certain temp the furnaces cant keep up with the heat loss.

Pvc easily shatters as it ages. Best shape is octagonal (or oval), square can cause injuries. It is more difficult to connect round poles to an X shape (mho).

The question is why people use s.r.. First always using a caveson, and then s.r. to them (properly adjusted to allow the horse to be in front of the vertical). And the horse learns half halts to remain in a proper bearing and connection. And then in trot (because walk and trot need bascule). The pur...

Traditionally piaffe comes as a forward exercise, so from collected walk (or rein back which is more diagonalizing) to piaffe. Collected walk meaning high flexing hind leg joints, articulated. The ability to use this comes from simple things early in training (for in hand) which is walk/halt (square...

Flechi droit is not bending the neck at the withers, which would be simple manipulation of the neck l/r as is recommended by some ldr riders. Instead, it is more calculated bending more in the front of the neck (similiar to positioning laterally) but much more clear with the base of the neck centere...

Re: Shoulder-in
When things are repeated more than once, or for a longer period of time, it is (as I said earlier) often for educating the rider as to what is correct (esp in a clinic situation). But that is not for the horse's training but for the rider's learning. And done in walk, it is less problematic because ...

HP changes through the levels because it is done on a steeper diagonal as one progresses up the levels, and with quicker changes of bend, as one goes up the levels. And as far as SI, the degree of collection is certainly more (with greater impulsion and articulation) in fei than it is at second. And...

Re: Shoulder-in
I never would do SI the entire long side except perhaps as a rider learning how to use the aids (and even then with voltes or circles added in the middle or so). And to do it until it fails (which is likely with a less experienced horse) would be problematic. I guess it depends upon what the rider i...

Re: Susanne von Dietz Educational Event in Landrum SC
Initially there may be pinching, but doing it for longer periods of time causes the rider to let the body to go up from the horse's action, rather like an elastic action. The posting then is lower because the tossing up is less than we think when we learn 'up/down' at the beginning. Then the rider l...

Posting trot w/o stirrups should not encourage clamping, it should be the opposite. Overpost (height) and the rider will be exhausted early with very sore muscles, etc. I remember in the days of posting w/o them, two point, jumping, etc that we actually had a contest of posting w/o them around an ar...

I think with what AP wrote that it was in a frame of reference of an entire book, but we have to understand he had to first be a teacher of riding (and yes, he wrote 5 books I think). Perhaps there is a mix up of the stages of training. The fact is that a line from elbow to horse's mouth, upper arm hanging vertical, thumb upward, is a NEUTRAL position. That is what the ODGs used. But it was also expected that the horse was up/open/ifV/active/etc. So the use then was situational. When the line is broken upward, then it is often a hal...
