Re: Training a gaited horse to trot
Update, sorry for the long delay. I finally got someone else to ride him so I could watch. After watching him move under saddle and doing some detective work, I figured out what he was and what he was doing. He is a Paso Fino - Quarter Horse cross. Breeders, don't ever create a cross like this on pu...

Re: Pretty Palominos--let's show our goldies :)
This sounds crazy, but every Palomino I've encountered has been very people oriented, just like orange kittehs. Are your Palominos pocket ponies?? YES. They would rather be with people than with other horses. But is it because they are Haflingers, or because they are gold? I don't know, as I have n...

Re: Pretty Palominos--let's show our goldies :)
Here are our two Haflingers. Flora and me, and Dutchess, my daughter's Haffie. We say Haffies are addictive like potato chips, we can't have just one!

Re: Training a gaited horse to trot
My video failed- I did not know that if I received a phone call while the video was recording, it would stop my video. So I thought I had 4 minutes of great video, but I really had 5 seconds of trotting video and a ringtone. However, I found out that the pony will trot on the lunge, as long as I get...

Re: Mercedes, my teacher
Thank you, everyone. We had a graveside service for her on Thursday. I know that seems a little unusual, but it gave us all a sense of closure. Since she was buried in the pasture, the other horses came around, and the flowers could not stay out there after we left (tasty treats!), but we all had so...

Re: Mercedes, my teacher
Thank you. It has been a sad day here, but tonight I have been going through my pictures and remembering the good times. And she brought us a lot of good times. We knew this day would be coming, but dreaded thinking about it. So happy to have been able to be a part of her life.

Re: Training a gaited horse to trot
Thank you for your suggestions- this defintely helps. I am going to bring along someone who can video for me while he is on the lunge line and under saddle next weekend. That should help to see if this is a soreness issue or a natural gait issue. I will update and we'll go from there. Thank you again!

Mercedes, my teacher
Mercedes 2.jpg All of the horses I have ridden have taught me something. But there have only been a handful that I consider my real teachers. The definition of a teacher is “one who instructs”. This mare instructed me, at times whether I felt that I needed it or not. Mercedes knew best. She always ...

Re: Training a gaited horse to trot
Niki, I can only get the trot on the lunge if poles are incorporated. I will try the pushing slightly sideways to see if that works. Thank you!

Training a gaited horse to trot
I am helping a friend with a project pony. He is adorable, a sweetie pie, and very fun to ride. He is 14. 2, around 15 years old, and came to her unbroke a couple of years ago. Her son got him going under saddle so that he is fine with being ridden, tied, trail ridden, etc. but she wanted me to see ...

Re: Tell us about YOU.
I am iriedogs, was iriedogs on UDBB, too. That was the name of my kennel, Irie Komondorok. I raised Komondor dogs for 21 years and so I am still Iriedogs, even though I have no more Komondors. My real name is Wynne (Wynne E. Smith on FB). Pronounced like "win". I am an Events Manager for a...

Re: Shareboarding--what to cover in a contract?
If you get hurt or sick and cannot ride for a period of time (any kind of hurt or sick, not just a riding accident), can contract be cancelled, and same goes for if the horse gets hurt or sick and cannot be ridden for a period of time. What happens with payment if either of those occur. I hope it wo...

Re: It's Gone
I believe Sandie Van Voorst was the last to post, due to a glitch where she was still on and logged in after all of us could not see it. She said she was the only registered user on. So she was the UDBB's last breath. I had to shed a few tears. This is a sad passing. But I am glad we are here, and h...

Re: "What's for dinner?"
I bought a whole chicken on sale yesterday. Put it in the crock pot with spices and a few veggies to cook all day today. Threw in noodles about 30 minutes before dinnertime. It was very good. Cheap, easy, tasty, and leftovers will last me all week.

Re: Home? and what was your first post?
Mine was a post started by Cornbread, and it was about a house, not a horse! 2008. There have been many more, about horses, dogs, current events, and about getting together with UDBB'ers in the NC /SC area (always fun).

Re: Welcome and updates
I watched my first Western Dressage show about 2 months ago and I am HOOKED! So excited that you are going to be doing this. Please keep us posted, we want to see pics from next weekend! I keep thinking that if Western dressage ever agrees to letting lowest level horses compete in a bosal, I can sho...

Welcome and updates
Woooo! We have our new place to gather. So happy this was able to happen, and in a quick timeframe. Thank you, Laurie! I used to post a good bit on UDBB, but over the past few years, just lurked and read everyone else's posts. Just for a quick update, here is what I am doing now. After my Hannoveria...
