Trying again, hope this is the one!
I tried a little Morgan mare on Tuesday and she seems to be in my barn now! Cute as a button and sane too. No riding yet as she;s only just arrived but I hope to be in the saddle soon!

Congratulations! I've always liked Morgans. Tend to have sensible personalitys and plenty of forward. She's very pretty too. Is she a cremello or a palomino?

Her papers say she is perlino, she's 15, has done a few endurance rides, had a few foals and some western shows. She's also been ridden English. Sweet nature.

started lunging a bit , she's very responsive, a bit unbalanced in the canter but she tries hard, She's a pleasure to work with.

Re: Trying again, hope this is the one!
quinta, I don't know much about Morgan bloodlines but she is 99.5% foundation, I see a lot of "full Lippit" in her pedigree.
Orono, we are taking it slow , I started riding her and because she is quick and has a lot of "go" I am working on transitions within gaits, only w and trot under saddle so far. Nothing is consistent yet but I am getting comfortable in the saddle and getting to know her. Once I get a bit more fit and familiar with her I will start taking lessons, I think that will be soon. Also want a few canters under my belt before then.
These are pics of my second ride, in the first I was asking for some bend and in the second I was giving because she was in a nice frame and soft.

I'm hving fun with Lottie. We've done some hacking alone and in company, shipped 4 hours to spend a week riding with my neice in lessons and on the trail...she settled in right away..even though she was in heat...Lottie and I even participated in a trail clinic that was so much fun. I'm no where ready to do a dressage test, but I'm having a blast. I had a lot of confidence to regain and that is comng along nicely! I'll post some pics of the trail clinic.

I'm having fun with her, been on a few hacks and have had her off property , actually took her on a mini vacation and did lessons and hacked and she settled into her new digs immediately.
She needs a lot of correct schooling and I need a lot of lessons...but we're working on it. Someday I hope I'll have some dressage show photos!

khall....it's been sweltering here too, but we've had the odd brief moment of less than 33C . This pic was taken early am...I've had two lessons in the past week or so...one at 6am and one at 7:30 am. They went well...really tryi g to work on my position and ride well. There are good moments and moments when we both fall apart...struggling to get and maintain bend . Slow and steady for we seniors...Lottie and I ! Sometimes I think I have no control of my body parts.
Re: Trying again, hope this is the one!
Backyarder I just adore you two as a pair. Lottie is such a perfect little package and you fit her beautifully. So happy for you!

Worked on canter today...no where near perfect but we're trying...I'm trying hard to be a soft but effective rider . I have a lot to work on.

Oh heck yeah! You guys are beautiful together. The nice thing about Morgan mares, more so than any other horse I've found, is that when they bond, they want to take care of you.
I am so happy for you! Look at you all brave and cantering already. I got my Morgan mare in July, but she's green and I'm riding in a western saddle. We're almost ready to canter but I have no arena and it's been raining a lot and, oh yeah, I'm chicken. But I know it will be there because we have so much more trust now.
I'm sure your dappled goldy is related. What's her registered name? This is SSH Golden Glory.

Haha, don't we all.
One nice, or sometimes not so nice thing about Morgans, is that I've never had one who was shy about taking a contact.

Re: Trying again, hope this is the one!
Kathy J , your mare is so pretty! Love her rich color! I sure hope you are right about Morgan mares taking care of thier humans...I so need taking care of! She is registered as Amberfield's Cafe au Lait, a Desparado baby...I think they are numerous and from what I've read they all seem to be sane.
Chicken in canter..oh...I'm so there with you!
kande50...my girl fights contact a bit...and tosses her head in frustration or curls way under...working on that every ride and it is improving. She is very smart and really really wants clear messages...I'm not so clear a lot of the time.

The only photo from my last lesson...lol...not too exciting. We worked on LY on a circle using counterbend to straighten and get her engaged. I suck at following directions but we had some good moments . Sigh, my head is always turned to the inside...love her ears.

Re: Trying again, hope this is the one!
I can't say too much how good you look together. How did you take that first step of canter? Once I do that, I'm pretty solid fear wise. She is not offering to break into it on her own.
Do you have any arthritis in your neck that might make it turn?
George Williams once told me to keep my chin lined up with the horse's poll. Between the ears look three horse lengths ahead at walk, 6 horse lengths ahead at trot and 9 horse lengths ahead at canter (it's like driving a car--the faster you're going the further ahead you need to look.)
