Walking a 5K
I did my first one last weekend as a fund raiser for the horse rescue. I came in last among women, but beat 3 guys, for 94th place. Now I'm kinda obsessed with improving my time (which shouldn't be hard to do, seeing as I clocked in with 1:01 but that included a bathroom break). I signed up for another 5K walk December 3.

Re: Walking a 5K
I and my ds will be in a 5k on Thanksgiving morning. Anyone else? My body won't accept much running anymore, but i am a speedy walker! This 5k is a big community event in our very small town (population <2,000), supported by all the neighboring towns. Last year, despite a foot of snow falling overnight, 350 people showed up! Congrats on joining the growing group of 5k walkers Paula.

I do a 20 minute mile, so am more of a stroller. My first 5K was through the forest preserve so I was rather cautious about my foot placement. The next 5K is on a paved walking path in a tony neighborhood--afterwards we go to the clubhouse for cocoa and cookies!

Re: Walking a 5K
Once again, we all had a ball at the Turkey Trot and I met my goal of coming in just under 45 minutes--easy to do cuz this time there was no snow and very little ice. I was thinking about you PaulaO, and wanted to suggest that while you are strolling, focus on keeping your chest lifted and your core engaged. Not only will it help with your riding, but you will find your foot placement is more secure. just sayin'
