How do you like these? They seem nice but are staggeringly expensive.

I fought buying them for a long time. REALLY FOUGHT. Tried a lot of different anatomical (Total Saddle Fit, Prestige, County, Nunn Finer etc.), soft, squishy (Le Tixerant), and real mohair string girths. My horse is pretty clearly a fan of this girth. Immediately better reach in the front end and less bracing when I'm tightening the girth.
Figures, right?

I've also been tempted, but hesitated due to price since I'm just a dressage hacker. I read some where that these run small and you need to size up. Is that why you need larger? I ride my guys in a variety of girths from a 26 to a 30 going up or down a hole and when I saw your ad I was afraid a 26 might be too small. How do you find the fit?

I didn't find them to measure or fit small; it's more that the girths are most effective when you can avoid the buckles falling near the elbow. Fairfax recommends that the girth come close to the edge of the saddle pad, while also not interfering with the rider's leg. For many people, that means a longer girth.
That said, I'm a bit negotiable on price..

Sorry although I was tempted I think I better pass. I pulled out my girths and really looked at where the buckles fell in relation to the elbows. On the 30 inch the girth just barely touched the dressage pad, with the 28 the buckles fell midway between the pad and the elbows, and with the 26 inch the elbows and girth buckles were level on 3 horses. So I suspect that a 26 inch Fairfax wouldn't be long enough. Thank you.
