Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
I just got home from having my beautiful 3 month old filly put down after a terrible paddock accident. I really don't know what I have done to deserve this.

I know it feels as though there are forces working against you, but please believe that there are not. You've experienced terrible, terrible luck, much more than anyone should have to bear. Don't blame yourself for anything that is out of your control, because you deserve to be better to yourself.
Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
Damn. I'm so sorry Shirrine. There aren't any platitudes that are going to make things any better. All I can offer is another - This, too, will pass.

Oh my god! That makes me physically ill. You've been around long enough to know I DO know exactly what you're feeling. I am so, so, so, sorry. Beware of the lingering depression and PTSD. SO many hugs to you Shirrine. If we could, I'd just hold you while you cried.

Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
Oh Shirrine - it is so hard to raise a foal to a sound, useable horse. The buggers come fully equipped with a built in self destruct button. So sorry you are suffering this terrible heartbreak on top of everything else you've been asked to cope with. Please know we are all here for you.
Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
Shirrine, I am sad beyond belief and also OUTRAGED at this impossible string of bad luck you have experienced for the past several years. WTF, universe?

There is no deserving.
By all means- stay down for a while and give yourself a chance to catch your breath.

Shirrine I am so sorry. You've been dealing with so much lately. Please know that I'm thinking about you.
Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
I am so so sorry, Shirrine...all I can say is that I have loved your horses for a long time. The first pic I remember back on UDBB was a bigger, dark boy that you were riding. It was a trotting picture and the harmony between horse and rider was beautiful. His trot was big and free, yet obviously on the aids...I can't remember his name but the picture is still pretty vivid in my mind.
All of your horses have a certain wonderful quality which says a lot about you...

Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
I went away from this thread without saying anything, then i came back. I was going to say nothing, then i decided that perhaps i can say something that might be of help. First, i want to say , I am sorry for your loss and sadness. Sadness is not always a bad thing, it shows us what is important to use. It is the flip side of happiness, how very sad you are at a loss is a measure of how very happy you were.
That said, sometimes we see portent and karma or signs or hand of god, in circumstances that are simply happenings. Bad things happen to good people. look at what happened, fix what you can, brush off what you cannot and do what it is that makes you happy.
The 21 of January just so happened to be the anniversary of the barn fire that took away my happy place. I try not to keep sad anniversaries, but I cannot avoid this one, because first thing in the morning i start to get texts and phone calls from my friends who shared in the tragedy. In the case of the fire, it happened only weeks after the death of a dear friend, from cancer. I did, for a while, think that God was trying to tell me to change something, give up, punish me , let me be honest, any number of very negative thoughts would hit me hard, and quite often.
i know that everyone is different, but my experience, after that, may help you in your troubles. Things happen, they are not your fault, they are not punishment, they are not signs, they are simply things that happen. Perhaps when something happens that really hurts, it may reveal to you some part of your self you have ignored for a while, like maybe changing something integral to you, but it is up to you decide what it is you want, what brings you joy, if it is time to give up, give up because you are tired and want to, not because of a tragedy, once you have reassessed what brings you a more complete self, then you throw out all the negatives, and go for it with gusto.
life is good, go for the gusto, find a piece of happiness in each day, even if you have to search for it.

Re: Not sure I want to get up from yet another knock down.
Thank you everyone, I am over my little hissy fit.
After putting on FB about losing Emma a wonderful lady contacted me and offered a free service to her imported German Riding pony stallion and I delivered Dreams there today so fingers crossed she is obliging.
There are aome wonderful people out there and the last year has introduced me to many of them.

Shirrine, like Chisamba, I've revisited this thread many times and just didn't know what to say. You have had more than your fair share of troubles. So glad that this ends with people embracing you in kindness. Hugs to you!
