Re: I have changed my name
Bascar, sorry to hear about the house. And the asbestos. Hope things look up for you very soon.
Re: I have changed my name
Son of a biscuit, just saw this. I am so amazed at your outlook and so incredibly glad that all living beings are safe. Wow, just wow. Please keep us updated on any ways you find that we can be of help?

But you have no qualms about helping others? Why do you think that is?

Agree. bascar, think of the pleasure it gives you helping others and give us THAT gift, of being able to help you!
Re: I have changed my name
Yeah.... so now what do we do?
I mean to say, if a big old range just showed up at Bascar's temporary house, she'd be embarrassed and all that, but she'd COOK something on it, right?
Yet, to get a big old range to show up at Bascar's temporary house, she doesn't get a choice in what that big old range is, or what controls it has or what features.
Bascar, we'd like to help. Can you figure out something we *could* do for you that you would consider to be "help"?

Well said and ditto! It would be awesome for all of us to help you.

excitingly, the central part of the house turns out to have asbestos, meaning we are now an EPA superfund site <sigh>
Oh, craptastic!
What essentials could we send in a Care package? Socks? Chocolate? Books? (I have a Kindle that needs a home!)
Lottery cards? Because you are way more than due for some luck of the great sort.
PS-- that desperately uncomfortable part? Now's your chance to get over that. Hugs, dear.

Re: I have changed my name
Ok. There is one thing that I would dearly love replaced sooner rather than later and that's my Dublin boots. Size 7.5. They got saturated with smoky water and presumably asbestos and I wear them almost every day
I would be touched beyond belief if the ddbb replaces those

Count me in!
Re: I have changed my name
That's one sure way to wipe out the past and begin anew, but you really did not have to get all dramatic about a new start!
I am so very sorry that this happened to you.
How much do Viking stoves go for these days anyway?

Crappy, this would be funny, if it was a movie. And PaulaO, PM me so I can contribute to the boots please. Maybe buy some Leather New, or cool socks, or neat boot-pulls.

Re: I have changed my name
Friendship Boots have been ordered and should arrive Thursday. I have sent PMs to those who expressed interested. Let me know if you don't get one and want to help.
If you get multiple messages from me, ignore. And excuse any typos!

Thank you, thank you, thank you
my friendship boots arrived last night and I am wearing them this morning. No idea how to post a photo but I did take one on my phone My internet connection is so crappy at the ranch I don't suppose I can even email a photo, but never mind
Again, thank you!
I am truly touched by the generosity of this board - it is quite, quite, remarkable
and special thanks to Paula for organizing such a wonderful gift

Re: I have changed my name
I have read many times posts from people who were "bascarded," sometimes out of the blue. I'm glad to have helped bascard bascar. Enjoy the boots for many years.

I'm so glad the friendship boots arrived and hope your feet are snuggly warm inside them.
Re: I have changed my name
So glad! Enjoy!
Re: I have changed my name
I am resurrecting this thread because I had lunch with bascar last week when she was in town. She is doing well (much better than I would be in similar circumstances). She does not have regular access to a fast wifi connection, so she is not on the internet much.
I asked her to send me a photo of her DDBB boots. Here it is, with thanks to everyone who contributed and thanks to all for their kind thoughts.

Re: I have changed my name
Thank you for posting. I was thinking about bascar last night and hoping she is doing well.
Re: I have changed my name
Good grief Bascar! How much can one person take? And with such grace? You are amazing.
Re: I have changed my name
I too have had bascar on the mind lately. Glad to hear she is bascaring on.
