I'm so sorry you've lost such a long and treasured friend. Please take comfort in the knowledge that there must have been extraordinary care and love to get Gristle to that age. xo
Re: i lost my horse-- RIP, Gristle
thank you,all of you!!
gristle had 2 owners, and a pretty good life for 33 years, and about 6 hours of acute misery. but there was no question as to whether it was the right time-- i am grateful for that.
and i'm grateful for a competent vet.
thank you all again

I like your post. It does take extraordinary care and love to get our friends into old age and beyond. The devotion it takes hardly has words.

Very sorry for the loss of Gristle. I know the pain is overwhelming .
Re: i lost my horse-- RIP, Gristle
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my horse Apollo one year ago at the age of 33. I also had him 19 years. He had a stroke so he was not suffering, which was a small blessing. But I cannot talk about him without crying, one year later. So cry. It is so hard to lose our wonderful partners and companions. (((hugs)))

Heck, it's been 3 years since Bob transitioned, and I still cry. But now I smile through my tears. It is just so hard.
Re: i lost my horse-- RIP, Gristle
I am so sorry. Those words seem so pitifully weak. Many hugs and keep the good memories alive.

Re: i lost my horse-- RIP, Gristle
There is something about the age 33. I lost my Stubby at 33 after 17 years. I started to cry again when I read your post. We love them so it is hard to let them go. But you know when it is time so they don't suffer any longer. You have my heart felt sympathy.
Re: i lost my horse-- RIP, Gristle
I lost a dear mare this year, too. The first few weeks were so hard, but then (as PaulaO said), the smiles start to come through the tears as memories other than the final days bubble to the surface. Hugs to you.
