So is he pink and naked like my leopard appy at the moment?
(He's getting downy, like a baby mouse.)

It was 110 this week. No winter in sight.

Unless that's a leopard thing to do (my friend's knabstupper, also leopard, sheds weirdly too, first the white hair then the black spots). Maybe it's worth to check for cushings. Not a textbook indicator but it happens to them...

It seems like just yesterday that July was inching forward.

No, he's quite sensible about the change of coats. The winter coat comes in at the same rate as he loses his summer coat. So he goes from silky smooth summer coat with the fur being about 1/4 inch long to a velvet like transition coat and finishes with a pelt where his body fur is over an inch long. The guard hairs are even longer.

Yep, my girl is shedding heavily. She leaves a white blot on the ground everywhere she lays down. I hope she doesn't get too carried away with the winter hair just yet. It is supposed to remain in the 90's for awhile yet.

Re: Winter is a coming
Did anyone else think this thread was going to be about Game of Thrones (glad it's not, 'cos I don't watch it).
Mine are still pretty slick, but new winter blankets have been acquired, and the old ones cleaned, waterproofed and ready to go. Probably ought to order some new clipper blades and oil as well.
Chipper is far too cute!

Keep calm and canter on.

and if it was about Game of Thrones I missed the connection because I don't watch it either. Although DH is a fan.

Re: Winter is a coming
Our mini started growing his winter coat the beginning of August! Rico has just started shedding his summer coat. I sure hope he grows a thick coat this year, he was in a heated barn (50 degrees) last year, and he'd didn't grow much of one, and it got to -24 degrees outside. No heated barn this year!

I shed Ariel's winter coat in one day, so I'm not a good judge of winter. But the mornings are definitely fall like!

Don't do GOT.
Next sign, the humming birds are all gone - probably to Mexico. Thursday, the four or five I've noted drank nearly half of my feeder's supply. Refilled on Friday and then there was only one hummer feeding on Sunday. Level hasn't dropped since Saturday PM.
I use to think they were nice gentle birds, not so any more. Couple of weeks ago, I walked out into (feeder hangs a few feet from my back door) a major war. Two males were slamming their wings into each other and trying to stab each other with their beaks (each beak is about one and half inches long). Definitely much more serious than a squabble over a hay pile!

I bathed Annabelle and Obie yesterday, and noticed that Obie is fuzzing up and looked almost poofy after his bath.
Keep calm and canter on.

Egg production has screeched to a halt. Used to be about 16 eggs a week. Now, 3. Molting has begun...
