Godspeed, Beetle
Our little Beetle dog (shiny black-headed pointer) needed to transition from the planet today. He had lymphoma and wow can that move quickly through a little body. He was not quite 11 years old. Just over a year ago, Beetle had CCL surgery after a way too vigorous run, recovered and was back to galloping around our fields. He had a good last year---probably even better with us working from home and keeping the pointers inside on bad weather days.
Godspeed, Beetle. You were full of verve, energy and very high frequency---and we will miss you! Jingles, please for the one left behind, our other pointer Aix (lemon/white).

Re: Godspeed, Beetle
Thank you all. Horse people are the best at understanding that we let them go when they tell us to---not when we want to. It's much harder on us than on them.
There are now 3 graves at our current property, where we've only been for 12 years: a beloved Weimaraner and now 2 beloved Pointers (half-siblings from different litters).

So sorry for your loss.
Re: Godspeed, Beetle
So glad you got to spend extra time with him in his last year. Eleven years is not a short life - for a dog. Much too short for you...condolences.
Re: Godspeed, Beetle
So sorry. What a cute pic of the two dogs sleeping.
Re: Godspeed, Beetle
Oh dear, that is so sad. It's so hard to loose our friends.

More sympathy plus a few tears for you. I lost my companion of 14 years two weeks ago. I so totally understand.

So very sorry for your loss. It might be part of the gig when we bring dogs into our lives, but it always hurts so badly.

Re: Godspeed, Beetle
Its so hard. This quote by Irving Townsend has brought me much comfort through the years.
"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached. Yet, still, we would live no other way."

Re: Godspeed, Beetle
Thank you all! The one left behind is doing well. He sometimes tries to do some of the behaviors Beetle did, then shrugs his shoulders like "I never understood that guy" and then comes and cuddles with us. He is the mellow pointer!
KathyK, that's a great quote and exactly true. We would have it no other way.
