99 days til retirement
Why yes, I am counting. It’s getting real now that’s in double digits. I officially told my boss last week. I had a lump in my throat the rest of that day but got over it. I toyed with the idea off going part time but then an email from accounting pissed me off and pushed me over the edge. My plan is to work at the barn a few hours a week in the office, checking in lessons, etc and hopefully that will cover board.
I had a 40+ year professional run and it is time.

Re: 99 days til retirement
It sounds like you have a good plan in place! One recommendation…make plans with friends to meet/lunch etc on a regular basis ie monthly or quarterly. Otherwise, especially with the pandemic, you will find yourself with time on your hands and nothing to look forward to. You will need to create a new routine. Good Luck!

Re: 99 days til retirement
Congrats on your up and coming retirement.
I retired in March 2020 and I am busier than when I worked! I can’t seem to get everything done. I had plans to do a big purge on my house and my horse stuff and 2 years later, i haven’t even started.
I thought I would have more barn/riding time and that has not happened.
I do meet friends for lunch/dinner, I rarely say no to get togethers.
I thought I would spend more time shopping, eating out, etc and that doesn’t happen either.
It’s a great idea that you will be working at the barn office!

Congratulations on your count down, Paula! I'm glad you have a post-work plan that sounds like more fun than work
I'm about 8-9 years from retiring....and if we can figure out that it's okay to do it sooner we will! I like my work okay, but it's not my life, if you know what I mean

Congratulations, Paula! I retired in 2017 and IMO, it's everything it's cracked up to be, and more.
Re: 99 days til retirement
Hang in there Paula...the end is in site.
I retired in 2019 after 41 years at the same place. Went back PRN (as needed) for another year but moved my Mother in with me and decided that was job enough (and yes...COVID ) and really hung it up in December of 2020.
I am enjoying retirement greatly. Taking care of Mom limits some of my activities but I feel it is a privilege to be able to take care of her...especially in these times being able to keep her out of a nursing home.
I still am managing a few travels. Spent a week at the Oregon coast last year. My friend and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone in the early fall and next year I am planning to go to Iceland. It just takes a bit more planning and some help from my sister.
Not having to go to work...devine.

Congratulations Paula! I'm so happy for you!
Re: 99 days til retirement
I retired a year ago. It has been a bit of a rough start and I am trying to find my real self again. Restrictions on social events and a diagnosis of low grade breast cancer has caused me to restrict my public contact until my therapy is over. It is good you have a barn family and routine to occupy your days. I am sure you will find the transition much to your liking with a lot of new doors opening

Hoopoe, hope you come through your cancer scenario with flying colors.
Paula, yes, you'll probably be busier than you expect, but as long as it is "your choice" kind of busy, it will be grand! I was able to retire from the paid workforce quite a while back, then stepped right into the unpaid workforce--volunteering-- for many, many, years. Now I'm just a critter caretaker! Give us another reminder when you're down to the 10-count!

Re: 99 days til retirement
hoopoe, I know you will come through this. About 11 years ago I had a partial mastectomy and radiation. Everything since then has been clear.
I worked from home today, but at 10 said "I haven't ridden my horse in 2 weeks (weather and a sinus infection). I'll run to the barn for an hour and do a quick ride." The barn is 10 miles away. I got home at 2..... And feel slightly guilty... This is how retirement will be. Meander to the barn, do food shopping, stop at the library (which is on the way to the barn), read, go to lunch, maybe workout. How could anyone be bored??????

Re: 99 days til retirement
Hard to believe but only 54 days. I attended a Medicare webinar, and talked with my Fidelity guy. I’m lining up healthcare stuff, like a colonoscopy and mammogram. Told the barn owner I will be working there in the fall. I sent my director my official retirement email and got an automated reply that she is on vacation for 2 weeks. She didn’t bother to tell me beforehand even though I report directly to her. Sigh.

She came to visit and wanted to know how I wanted to "celebrate." I told her I didn't care. She put together a lunch for me next week around her schedule. And decided that the department is going to do a Seinfeld trivia game in my honor (we are both Seinfeld fans and participated in a yearly trivia bee). She will be here my last day to collect my ID badge. She's coming at 3:30 because she has a meeting from 8-3.
Re: 99 days til retirement
well at least she will come in. I arranged to drop off my computer etc and the IT guys never showed. I left my keys and computer with the front desk guard.
Dont make celebration plans for the weekend next week. Celebrate on Monday when you appreciate that you are not needing to go in
