New horse, need help with a name

My new filly, registered name Rosette, arrived last night. The breeder has been calling her Rosie, but we already have a Rosie in the barn, so she needs a new barn name. I've got lots of ideas, but nothing that's really grabbing me. Her sire is Rascalino and her dame is Leilani, who is by Londonderry. She's dirty in these pics, but a bright red chestnut with lots of bling including a nice even blaze that you can't see in these pics, and mane and tail tending towards flaxen. She's registered GOV, so something with a German bent might work. Personable but pretty quiet and mellow. Bring on the suggestions!

Razzie. It's close enough to Rosie that she'll think you just have an accent. When my mare came into the barn she had the name Clownie, which is awkward and everyone hated. So we went with Chloe because it was close...so all these years she has probably assumed I have a speech impediment.

Looking in the thesaurus, a couple of cute words related to 'Rosette' come up.
I like 'Twist', 'Bow' and 'Prize'.
And of course you could always call her 'Ribbon' :D

Love the name Ribbon. Yesterday I watched "Gilda" with Rita Hayworth who was a beautiful redhead. So how about Gilda?

I like Roz if it suits her personality, and Etty or Etta as well.

What about Lily? or Layla? or Rossi? or Ros?

Rossetti was a painter and is practically the same thing as Rosette. Then you could call her Zetti.

But I like Gilda, actually, for the flaxen...

I like Ribbon. Or Teeter- not sure why that name came to mind, but that's what I thought when I saw her.

I had a Rojo, who I renamed Rosa. She is sometimes Rosie, but most of the time I just call her Ro. Rosa or Ro would differentiate her from the other Rosie and still keep any name recognition she may have. Rosette is just two syllables too and is a gorgeous name.

Well, I had the opportunity to be there when she stepped off the trailer...I called her Peaches. Kind of silly but she responded to it...although after 500 miles in the trailer, she would probably respond to anything :D .

I like Zetta (or Zette). It kind of keeps with her name but you lose the Rose part which is duplicate at your barn.

We got a new horse in this weekend whose name is Hunny. I like that but would defer to the correct spelling..Honey. She is that color.

Bottom line...I'm not very good at thinking up names. I have always just left the name they came with...or part thereof. Kyra is actually Valkyra. Easy to cut it down to Kyra.

Thanks I am reading all the replies and making a short list while I'm traveling this week. Maybe one will stick when I get to spend a little more quality time with her. Who knows, Rosette could still stick. I like it OK but itbses a.little formal or something. Anyway, I appreciate all the suggestions!

Ah, I see you shopped at Cindys!
I do like Rosette as a name. It means ribbon in German.
And she is a very nice, well-bred filly! Congrats on buying her.

I think Lucy would be a neat name. Besides, might be a fun name to belt out. If she's being bad she'd also have a more formal name Lucille...

Lol, that's what I was thinking.
Can you pull off a Cuban accent cause that would be pretty fun too.

Did you pick a name yet? I forgot to say congratulations! She is a beautiful mare, can't wait to see her at the shows in a couple of years. :-)

I normally name them something to do with my first thought at sight or their personality.

Foals I've bred and their random names
EB - short for 'energiser bunny'
Annie - born on mums birthday the year she died, so named after mums middle name.
Luka - was orginally named Lucifer as he was a complete tosser and a complete arsehole to deal with as a colt... He became Luka when he got gelded ;)
Mr - he never really got a name so was named Mr
Twinkie - she came out and was just has Twinkle Toes, she also was chestnut with 4 white socks and a massive blaze, which looked like she had a line of Twink down her face.
Bamm-Bamm - he was a massively build foal and just looked like a cartoon character Bamm-Bamm.

So essentially what I am trying to say, for a barn name - take your time, get to know her and a name for her will just form. Don't worry about it.

I love Rosette, it's short enough for a barn name and it's unique. Stick with Rosette, and other nicknames will follow.
