A Week in the Life of the Cowpony

It's been a busy seven days here in Cowpony land.

Last weekend we returned to the dressage ring. Doing Intermediate 1, we got two mid-60s scores. I was very pleased I'm still working on my nerves, and he tensed a little bit in response. Next time my goal is to keep the trot I had in warmup in the arena! Sorry buddy.

This weekend we were back in the cowhorse pen. I wasn't up to snuff in my reined work, and am a bit annoyed at myself. But it's always a good day when you work a cow, so I'll take it!

Thanks for the great update. Can I ask where you got your Navajo? I'm resurrecting my 25+ year old Cutter Collection pad because nowadays the Navajos all seem so...garish. I like yours?

Its a Professional Choice pad, probably at least 6yr old. Has held up well.

Heh. It is a reining saddle I had made for us way back in our early years, when we were doing exclusively reining. It is a super nice and comfortable saddle, but I have been shopping for one better suited to our current uses. Something a little more practical that I could dally off of. Just haven't found The One yet.

Congratulations Kelo. I'm very impressed. The stinker pony and I were hoping to do I1 next month but due to a new job it's likely we'll have to put it off......of course his alternative lifestyle doesn't involve cows though we do ride through them on a regular basis lol.....

Kelo - your guy gets my vote for the coolest most versatile horse! What a great athlete and mind! Regrettably my PT/QH developed navicular some years ago. He is super smart and loved his riding work and trail rides. Hook up the trailer and he would self load. Now a pasture pet.

My best friend had one made custom recently. Trees are hand carved to fit the horse and the maker is pleasant to look at.

I'm shopping for a ranch saddle...something more versatile. I want a lighter cut-down saddle, with the rigging I like (don't like in-skirt rigging), that I can rein and cowhorse on, dally off of (I don't really rope, but I do need to drag stuff), with short skirts (he has a short back), small seat for me, and hooks/strings so I can tie stuff up when I go trail riding. If I could find one light enough, I could use it for the competitive trail ride/endurance too...currently I have to use my dressage saddle and there's no place to tie stuff to that. As you can see, I have few needs so I'm still searching.
