I bought the farm!
So, two weeks ago we bought a Sears Roebuck house on 5 acres. We are calling it Apricot Acres as that's the name of the road it's on. I'm currently having a shelter built for the horses. The man I hired is absolutely wonderful. I've hired another guy to do fencing. The house is decent but needs some work. Like a true horse person I bought it for the property and not the house! LOL!
One drawback - we have moles. Fortunately not in the pasture but the other side of the property. How do I get rid of them?

Congratulations! My bestie lives in a Sears house - it's nearly 100 years old.

I love the sign. Congratulations on your new home! Will Magic be an only child or will you find him a friend?

My daughter is bringing her two full size horses and a mini, so Magic will have friends!

I'm going to show my age here! Chisamba years ago (my house was built in 1936) you used to be able to order a house out of a catalog. Sears is a store and years ago they sent out large merchandise catalogs. You could choose from a few different styles of homes, and Sears would deliver all the pieces needed to build your choice of homes. I've heard that it may be 30,000 pieces, maybe more!

I did Google it. Amazing what variety of houses they offered. Imagine a mail order self assembly house.
It makes an Ikea shelf pack look puny.

Congrats to you! You will (have to) become a terrific mole hunter. My husband was excellent at this when we had our little acre. I don't think there's an easier solution.

Re: I bought the farm!
Congrats! I gave up on mole removal folklore and bought some traps, and they work. Follow the instructions for prepping the hole, it really does matter.

Congrats! That sign is lovely, and the name is great. We have moles too. For the longest time they stay out of the horse pastures but they have started to venture in. I read that you should tamp down on the tunnels whenever you stumble upon them. I called our pest contro, company and a) they aren't set up for other than small yards in neighborhoods....it would be crazy expensive b) their methods would mean dead and dying moles wherever they dropped and I was worried about dogs and wildlife getting poisoned if they ate them. Never looked into traps...guess I should. We've had to start putting mouse traps in attic in winter. I actually love little mice.

Congrats!

Re: I bought the farm!
Many years ago there was a HUGE horse barn that was a Sears Roebuck barn. It was 3 stories tall with apartments on the top floor. The stalls were back to back central to the building so you could ride around the perimeter which was all windows. When the property was sold to build a shopping mall someone purchased the barn and took down in sections. It was so big I heard they only used half of the building to restore elsewhere. It may have had over 40 stalls easy. It was beautiful!
