She's looking very good! I hope I will still be riding at that age.

However, if I were Queen, I would wear a jewel encrusted helmet :) .

Here here to both thoughts Canyon....I'd get a really expensive helmet with A lot of bling on it!

That horse is the type that isn't usually my type, but it's gorgeous!

If I'm still riding at 89, I won't wear a helmet either. Go out on a big note, doing the thing you love!

God bless her. She's never worn a helmet, so why start now? And I heard she will only ride sturdy ponies now--no prancing horses. I just love her.

I've looked at the picture a few times now. I just love it. Thanks for posting it.

I wish she'd wear a helmet too but she's been riding for probably over 80 years (!) and I seriously doubt they'd put her on a pony that's any kind of a yahoo. I'm sure that pony is well schooled on a daily basis just in case Her Majesty feels like going out for a spin. I'm also sure that just out of frame there are accompanying riders and security people as well.

Regardless, I'm glad she's still riding, she's an inspiration to seniors everywhere and those of us who aspire to be seniors someday (and I'm getting mighty close) 8-)

There is no excuse for not wearing a helmet. No matter how well trained or steady her ponies are, accidents happen. How would you all feel if her pony stumbled and she fell, a la Courtney King Dye, and was seriously hurt?

That would be a horrible thing to happen. However, it really is her personal choice to wear one or not.

I'll hazard a guess that she has less chance of falling and splitting her royal crown open off that pony than she would going up a flight of stairs at the Palace. She's perfectly capable of judging her risks.

On another note, what kind of bit is that pony wearing?

I enlarged it doesn't look like a double bit, it's a single bit with a leverage arm two reins, don't know what it's called.

I can't enlarge it, so to me it looks like a large ring bridoon and a Weymouth. Hmmm...It does look like there's no attachment at the top arm, though. I figured that was just an illusion being a black horse with a black bridle. There's another side view pic on the album of her riding out, but again I can't enlarge it to see.
