Who else is completely freaked out about politics these days?

Postby khall » Wed Jul 03, 2024 5:09 pm

Major anxiety in our household. Between the SC horrendous decisions and the presidential race crazy we are a bit beside ourselves.

Between politics and mom having more bad days than good I’m certainly glad I have the horses to be distracted with.

Me, and anyone with a soul and brain. Totally terrifying we've gone backwards so much and we have discovered how many downright stupid, evil people there are.

I'm with you on the second statement, too. :(

This week's SCOTUS ruling is terrifying. And as someone who works politics-adjacent (campaign fundraising), I cannot get away from it. Everyone outside work wants me to weigh in, and I just want to go for a long run and bury my head in the sand. Fortunately, DH recognizes I need downtime, and refuses to discuss anything for more that 5 minutes, even when I really want to — that's a double-edged sword.

So many self centered, "I've got mine, 'eff you all'" voters out there. It's awful.

I'm distracting myself with my dad's health woes — he's back in the hospital with sepsis, and who knows what else. It's been two days and they're still running tests and he's still being cruel to the nurses who are just trying to clean his bed sores. Why does he have sepsis again? He doesn't let the VA home staff clean his bedsores. This is the cycle with no good ending /sigh

That is about where I'm at. I'm an ecologist for the federal government and have been working on policy that has the potential to really have a positive impact, but I know it will get exploded if the administration changes. Hard to keep pressing forward if I think about it too much.

I 100% disagree about the choices. I wasn't for Biden when he got in, but he's accomplished way more than I thought he could, and even being faced with a psycho ranting the same inanities over and over, after being befuddled, he went back to detailed facts about what has happened, what can be done, and what will be done. When he gets in, I hope he goes out with a bang and says fuck it and does all of the stuff from expanding SCOTUS to using the expanded powers to fix all the rest that needs to be done.

I am hoping we had to get this bad for the majority of good people to stand up and do something, get real power and young, moral people in place, and really change this country for the better. Sad to say, it couldn't have happened before.

Head back in sand for awhile.

And that, right there ...

Biden needs to go enjoy hanging out with his great grandkids in retirement. And we need an age limit on who can run for office.

Geez. I hope the country can get it's shit together.

Anyone with a brain who can do some good for most people, versus give all of the welfare to the rich and ya'll pull yourselves up by the bootstraps. How can it even be a choice?

And THIS is the biggest issue, isn't it. Ten years ago could you even have imagined that people are this stupid? The lesson we had to learn--a third of the population are immoral, useless, stupid people.

khall I know. It's stunning. Everything about him is disgusting, cheating, and lying and they love it. I keep going back to we had to learn how many horrible people there really are.

Adding, kind of feeling hopeful with Kamala. I know, how DARE a strong, woman of color, who doesn't take shit run for president! Pretty cool to have a local as our next pres., let alone her. I can't wait for her to eviscerate the POS.

And I'm loving even more that Mark Kelly looks like a front runner for VP. Man, could the Democratic party be doing the smart, aggressive thing for once??

I had an interesting conversation with a T fan the other day, which helped me realize/remember that many that are voting for him are doing it based on misinformation.

This person was under the impression that under T administration we were able to produce all our own oil and and not import any and that's why the economy was better and now we are importing all our oil, so prices are higher. When I pointed out that we never stopped importing or producing oil and showed her the facts and figures to back that up, she pivoted immediately to the fact that T never took a presidential salary in order to help the country. Again, not quite right. He did take a salary, but claims he donated all of it, but didn't disclose who it was donated to. Plus, we're talking like $400k, so even if he had given it back to the country, it's a drop in the bucket for governmental budgets. Again when i pointed this out, she immediately pivoted to something else that was once again not accurate.

I listen to many podcasts of political nature. One was hot for Mayor Pete because he’s such a beast with articulating facts and fearless in going on Fox etc. I would love Pete but Shapiro from PA looks good and Mark Kelly he and his wife true American heroes.

I too am so much more hopeful with Kamala running. We just can’t handle another T administration. Ugh. I’d look to move out of the country.

Blob it amazes me how willfully blind T supporters are. Reminds me of that Jack Nicholson line You can’t handle the truth.

And yeah tanga I’m ready for these miscreants to crawl back in their holes. T emboldened them to voice their bigotry misogyny and racism. I’m ready for them to be shunned for that shit again instead of applauded.

It is not only their belief of misinformation but they accept his reprehensible behavior. They are not interested in learning the actual facts because they don't care. Maybe too much effort to seek out the truth.

Integrating critical thinking into the curriculum needs to be a top priority for the US Department of Education.

It got really dark there for a few weeks, seems a little bit better now that Kamala is running, but at the end of the day they reacted to a black male president by electing Trump over a white woman, I just don't see them voting for a black women. :(

"They" won't. But the rest of us with brains, morals, and a clue what is going on in the world will, and they will continue to show how disgusting they are as she takes down that POS. The people whining about Biden being too old have zero excuse now, and I LOVE how Kamala calls out the POS right from the start. Everyone needs to start asking how they like their tRumpcare .

It affects my work too. And to a much larger degree, DH’s work too. That’s an added stress we don’t need.

All these young guys for Trump are clearly choosing to forgo sex for the next four years — and beyond, because WTH is going to trust them now? I hope it’s worth it.

I was hoping the initial Harris campaign enthusiasm would've carried over into votes. Without spending time outlining specific remedies for our country's woes (real or perceived) it seemed too much time was spent responding to what Trump did or said. Personally my biggest concerns are for environmental protections, which are likely to be strafed in their entirety. Hope the next four years flies by as quickly as the last seemed to have.

I went to bed at 7 on Tuesday because I had to get up at 3 am to fly to Ecuador. I am there now. I could not believe it. I think the biggest issue is people don't care enough, and not educated. Those people who didn't vote and those who voted for tRump are screwing themselves. The Muslims I guess voted for 3rd party in Walz's district as a protest of Palestine. Now our wannabe dictator will encourage Netanyaho to wipe them off the map.

I'm with you on environmental and a liveable world for the future even though I don't have kids.

I'm so tired , thankfully, I am not processing well or able to really feel it. I forsee anyone and everyone who can will flee red states.

I guess the good thing for me is in my local, super diverse area we had right wing nuts running for mulitple offices all over the place. The worst asshat got a school board position, but was trounced everywhere else, and the other two rightwing asshats got trounced--running against diversity, equity and inclusion and complete lack of any understanding of local facts. I think I had something to do with why they lost. Sadly my not friend who has worked his ass off for the last year to get on the school board to actually help kids in need and stop the waste of money lost to the rightwingnut whose only issue is "grooming."

I will enjoy Ecuador and my four days in the Galapogos, where we are going to dive!

Exactly - I believe many people have become so tolerant and desensitized by his extreme and criminal behavior as acceptable. Next a few Supreme Court judges will now retire so he can add more corrupt judges. The public is delusional if they think he will leave in 4 years. He'll have HIS Supreme Court apply that change after gutting the constitution and installing Project 2025. There is no balance of power between the Senate and House. This country and the world will pay an excruciating price as we repeat the history of dictators.

I’m stunned. I’m numb. I can think of a hundred things I want to say but words are futile. I hope the next four years bring much joy and happiness and lower egg prices to all that voted him in.

Amongst many other things, I'm so very not looking forward to four more years where cheating and incivility are considered normal. It was miserable as a small business last time around.
