My mother has been battling cancer for a while now. Suddenly, last week everything fell apart. I'm sitting by her bed while she sleeps - heavily medicated for pain.

I am wishing for this latest trial of hers to be brief and that she passes in her sleep.

Thank you everyone for the wishes. It helped me knowing that perfect strangers were sending such positive messages.
Mom finally passed tonight, close to midnight. I say finally because her last few days were not good ones and it served no purpose to prolong her stay. She's free now.

Watching our parents die is difficult on uncountable levels...watching them suffer as they die is past expressing. My mother suffered terribly. My dad had a much faster and more merciful end. I am so sorry you are going through this and for what it is worth I am praying for mercy for your mom and solace to you.

My BIL too is on his father's bedside watch, it is very hard. His dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and it is not an easy thing to deal with. Add in family drama to it all and he is struggling.

thank you everyone, she hasn't really gained consciousness but I think she recognized me yesterday, briefly. She is on 'comfort care'. No IV , just meds to keep her comfortable, mouth care and whatever sips of beverages she wants to have.

I'm sorry. I know that one's initial feeling is of relief that your loved one is not suffering anymore, but then the grief and missing sets in. I wish you good memories of your mother and not the terrible memories of her illness. Hugs

I'm sorry too. My grams died at the end of last year. It was a long slow week as she deteriorated and while it was good that it was over, still sad she is gone. Hugs!
