My two favorite novels she wrote are The Vagabond, and Cheri and The Last Of Cheri. I love her writing. Her female characters are very independent for their time in history.

Fascinated by her as a person. The writing ... I see more as historical documents. But also a kind of guilty pleasure!

Haven't read since school. I will put her back on my reading list.

They are a guilty pleasure. She certainly had an remarkable life. I love the way she writes about nature.

I love her non fiction/memoirs .. - especially Earthly Paradise -- one section she's living out in the country and writes about taking the pony out to wander -- the cart is the low type you can hop off and on as the pony is slowly moving. I'd love to see that build.

There is also one novella with horses - Julie de Carneilhan - usually published with Gigi -- she has a brother who has taken on the family horse breeding -

One of my favorite author. I was given the Claudine series when I was a teenager and I never looked back. I still have the four leather bound volumes in my bookcase. Beautiful illustrations. I also LOVE Dialogues de bêtes, Les Vrilles de la Vigne, Le Blé en herbe, Sido, La Maison de Claudine, La Naissance du jour. I like her more autobiographic work. She was able to evoke a certain time in France like no one else - and flowers, time, sun, air, animals..the very being of being a young girl, a teenager, a woman.

I want to read this one: "J'aime être gourmande " and this one "Cadeaux de Noël" I had never heard about them but they sound very much like little jewels.

I have never seen some of the stories mentioned above. I love the Claudine books and Gigi. I'm going to look for Julie de Carneilhan. Thank you for mentioning them.
