Does anyone feed it for ulcer prevention? I'm trying to find some and so far have not located any locally. I can order it on the internet but shipping is half as much as cost. Any suggestions on where to find it? Thanks!!

I think I remember someone on UDBB saying they used a food processor to grind up oatmeal to make an oat flour, and they fed that with good results. Unfortunately, I can't verify that for you now.

You can buy Oat Flour from Honeyville. http://shop.honeyville.com/oat-flour.html Its $4.99 shipping, flat rate, UPS. Did the home made for a while... to much of a PITA long term. This is good flour... you can buy a storage bin at "cheap place of choice" to put it in. Keeps for a year. I go through 1 about every 6 months... although I also use the oat flour for making my horse cookies instead of wheat flour.

So is the oat flour comparable to oat fiber? Still fed at 1/4 cup a day?

Same thing. What you are looking for is the Beta Glucan which is in the oat flour/fiber. That is the special sauce in the Succeed that you pay fortunes for. And yes... I feed about 1/4 to half a cup. I just mix it in the oats with a little water... so it sticks.

I also use Honeyville. I have a horse who gets ulcery when shipped and this helps a lot with that as well.

This is perhaps a stupid question, but why not just feed 1/4 cup rolled oats instead of grinding it into flour?

My guess it is a coating/absorption issue.

My understanding is that the oats need to ground to release the betaglucan that is what works on the gut. I asked the same question back when.

Shoot, just saw this.....H&E Feeds in Eugene sells oat groats by the 50lbs bag at $9.00 per bag. You can use a coffee grinder to make oat flour. Works like a charm.

Hah! I tried the do it yourself method. At 1/4 cup per day... it just took too much time. Not too proud to say Nope, I'll pay for someone to do that job for me.

Ah but that's because you used a regular coffee grinder ;)
If you get the kind that has a reservoir, it'll grind up to a full cup at the time 8-)
