I needed a new serviceable winter boot, as my Dublin Zeniths are getting well worn.
I chose to buy Ovation Moorlands (http://www.ovationriding.com/ovation-mo ... oot-469865 ). I got them a bit larger than normal to help with winter socks and hands (I am not very able in winter temps). They are super comfortable, I don't mind abusing them, and they actually look decent. I typically get horse in and out of paddock in them/groom/ride in them.
I'm not sure how I found them as they were a bit off the beaten track for me. But they looked interesting and I went for it. The upper portion of the boot is very grippy---much like a half chap. I had a discount coupon from Victory Canter, so they were very reasonable for a work-a-day boot.

Re: Boot Review: Ovation Moorlands
They are not as warm as my old Dublin Zeniths, but they are very waterproof.
I am in the mid-south (TN) and think I will happy riding in them all winter. I think for serious cold, more insulation could be needed.
