Anyone Going to World Cup?
I am seriously thinking about it, looking at flights and hotels. Hmmm... anyone else?
Keep calm and canter on.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
i have a good friend (not a horse person) who traveled to two of the Las Vegas World Cups with me (and enjoyed herself) so when I heard it was going to be in Omaha, where she has family, I said "do you want to go?" We have our World Cup tickets. They are quite a bit cheaper than Las Vegas, but no hotel or airline yet. From all reports it is a very nice venue with a lot more room and everything under one roof. Omaha also has a world class zoo if you are interested. It would be nice to meet some board members IRL.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
I didn't realize it was going to be so close to me this time. I may see if I can go up for a day or two, will have to look into ticket prices.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Well, I just bought tickets, so I guess I'm going! Will figure out flights and lodging in a bit here. Anyone know if it's worth staying downtown? It seems like it might be worth it to rent a car and stay over on the Iowa side.
Anyone who's going, let me know and we can meet up. I'll be in section 205, Row A for dressage and jumping.
Phoenix, tickets ended up being $210 for the jumping and $164 for dressage after all the service fees and such.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Can you buy tickets just for specific days or events though? I live about 3 1/2 hours away and would prefer just to make a day trip or two Instead of a hotel

Says single ticket options go on sale early 2017. I might go for 2 days. What else is in Omaha, besides good steaks?

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
I'm contemplating it.
But our middle son just announced that he is getting married in Sicily next summer so the spare pennies may have to go towards that trip...
Why these kids have to pick places so expensive and complicated to get to, I do not know.

I will be at the World Cup. I'm also from Omaha- grew up there and just moved away after another 8 year stint. I can recommend hotels, restaurants, entertainment, etc.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Thanks Ike, any advice is appreciated!
It looked like the downtown hotels are filling up, so I reserved a room at the Hilton that right at the venue, but might try to get something cheaper and rent a car, so any suggestions are welcome. I'm planning to come in on Thursday and go straight to the show, and fly out on Sunday evening.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
I know Carl Hester just took Barney to a Word Cup qualifier and he's teaching a master class in San Diego the week after the WC so I am guessing he's planning on being there. :-p
I'm mulling over the idea of going.

I wish it was in Vegas again. What the heck is there to do in Omaha?
Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Damn! I just typed a super long reply with tons of stuff about Omaha and what to do there. I'll have to try again later.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Looks like I'll be going for the whole thing after all (well, the dressage part). I just put in for the PTO after convincing my parents to buy me tickets as an early birthday gift. I just have to try and decide what the best seats would be that are left and I'll be making the purchase. I cant wait!

Bump: just a few weeks away! I'm going home tomorrow and hoping to find my tickets in the stack of junk mail that will be waiting for me.
If anyone wants to meet up, send me a PM. I get in at 12:30 on Thursday and fly out early Monday morning.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
Received my tickets earlier this week! A friend and I are going and really looking forward to it. It would be nice to meet some of you IRL. Did you see that Vegas got it again in 2020 in a new venue.
Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
I have 2 full session tickets I need to sell. Section 120. PM me for information.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
What do people wear to these events? Everyone from my barn is talking about dressing up... but they are all in the VIP section. I'm in the balcony, do I need to dress more formal still? I've never been to a big show like this so I'm really not sure what people usually do.

Re: Anyone Going to World Cup?
I wore my version of fashion jeans (in contrast to barn jeans but not blingy) in Vegas and will probably wear jeans or cords depending on the temperature in Omaha. I'm not in the VIP section either. However, I'm not very fashion conscious and my dress will definitely depend on the temperature and whether I will be outside at all. I'm really looking forward to this. Have also heard wonderful things about the zoo.

I'm going to wear what's comfortable for sitting for hours at a time and shoes that I can walk to and around the venue in. So probably just jeans, loafers and a long sleeve tee. Pretty basic.
