Marius Schreiner clinic went well
Marius worked well with all levels if riders and helped everyone, I feel very positive about the clinic in retrospect.
I just wish I could work with him.on a more regular basis
I felt he had a good eye for what each horse and rider needed to improve. He taught more correct and effective aids, addressed posture in ways that made aids more effective, and most especially improved ability to teach the horse about its hind end. I think that was true for general observation across all the lessons.
For Kimba particularly, he assisted with riding inside leg to outside rein in half pass, adding the small circle anywhere in the half pass to improve angle and flexion and the half pass again.
We worked on staying active in the hind legs in downward transitions as preparation for piaffe and for pirouette and flying changes. He reminded me how correct downward transitions are keys in all three of those more demanding moves.
He was also smart enough to praise my horse honestly. By which I mean I know she isn't fancy talented, but she is willing and seems to understand and appreciate the balance better carriage brings to her. He noticed that.
If you ever have an opportunity to ride with him I believe you will appreciate and learn from it.

It sounds like a very good experience. Chisamba. Did you get to watch many other rides?
I love the suggestion to add in small circles in half pass work. That is so brilliantly simple---and I know it will be a helpful exercise.

Thanks for sharing, Chisamba. I always enjoy people's clinic reports.
A good reminder about the downward transitions that I can utilize right away.

I tried to watch as many as possible. Especially Beth Sproule Hansen's grand prix horse, and my students to get helpful input on my students needs.

Useful half pass exercise--I shall try that tomorrow.
Nice picture, too. Lots of focus there! (And you look great!)

Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
thank you both, Ryeissa and Musical Comedy. I have a couple of photos of us under saddle, sadly my friend who took video for me had sub standard equipment and its very blurry and just not even useful, but having said that i can hear what he said and remember so its helpful to me. i shall try to downsize a couple of photo for the page. I definitely want to bring him back , he says he tries to come to the USA twice a year, and so next year maybe twice. I hope so, i feel more optimistic about working with Marius than I have with anyone in a long time.

That would be great if Marius can do 2 x year near you. It is a great photo and I love how you described how he worked with you and Kimba (appreciating her qualities and what she brings to the work).

I do not really like any of the photos
Here are as couple of Teddy, a client horse I rode, poor Teddy cam to us ewe necked and low backed, his rider had no showing aspirations, so it's about healthy muscle development for him

Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
I think the video and photos are lovely and correct. Thank you for sharing them.
Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
Gimme some time! I've been on nightshifts
Just thinking the vid, was it done on a phone and emailed? Maybe see if they can upload to dropbox, or google docs or something like that so you can download in it's proper size, not compressed like that.
Kimba looks to be working really well.
Photos are nice! Why don't you like them?

Yes I could ask for a less compressed version of the video. Thanks for the suggestion. I had hoped for some pictures of the canter work. It felt so much better and progressed so well, and there was not a single one, lots of thecealk pirouette and tiny bit of piaffe like work, but none of things I wanted to see. So that was most of my disappointment.
I would have liked more uphill thru the back in the half steps,
Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
Ok yep, you are at the mercy of whoever is photographing.
Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
I really like the photos! Can you give a bit more information about how you worked on the half-steps? We often attempt them as part of warm-up, to remind Odin that he has hocks. But I'm not an upper-level rider, so I like hearing what other people want to feel and what they are looking for.

Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
Ad you said, at this time it is to remind her that her back legs exist. Otherwise she forgets them and they just follow. Lol.
The picture is an example of how beginnings can be very different from end goal. She has hollowed her back and is bouncing behind as opposed to stepping further under. But we accepted what she offered because of the activity she offered. On subsequent attempts she stayed softer in her neck which allowed her back to be elastic so the hind legs stepped more forward and less "kick"

Re: Marius Schreiner clinic went well
I like the video even if the quality of the video was not good, showed nice SI L and HP L, seemed to struggle a bit more HP R but Kimba still tries so hard!
Chisamba I would take it as a big win with the diagnolizing in the piaffe attempt! That can be a big battle for some. I like what the clinician was saying about keeping the activity throughout the down transitions to help prep for piaffe and changes, that is a very good point and one I will use for sure.
For me it is fun to keep plugging away at the pieces and then they start to fall into place.
